Yahoo Widgets + Twitter = Good Fun
I was introduced to Yahoo Widgets not too long ago and my life has been forever changed! Now on my desktop I have a continually-updated weather widget, a Twitter button and a beaker icon representing my battery life.
I used to visit Twitter to let everyone know what I was up to on a minute-by-minute basis, but now I can simply hit the button sitting on my desktop and type away, easy as pie. That’s not the only fun I can have with Yahoo Widgets, however. Visit the site, peruse around and you can find what you like. For my other blog I like to view the Automotive.com feed widget and the PA Webcams widget that displays traffic cams of Pittsburgh highways.
If you’re geeky, you can download a typing speedometer or a mouse odometer to determine the amount of distance your mouse has traveled (I have both).
All avid computer users should have a Yahoo Widget thingy of some sort, just because. If you’re a twitter-er like myself it comes in REAL handy. A lot of social networking sites have widgets, Woot.com has one even. Oh yeah, and if you don’t find one for the geeky, productive or convenient process you have in mind – build your own!
Here are some widgets you shouldn’t live without:
1. Ever wonder where the International Space Station is located at any time? Check out this widget and you’ll always know.
2. Shouldn’t you always know Atlanta’s air quality?
3. How much are you worth by the second?
4. Finally, what are the most interesting things to see on Google Earth?

Vista and Google both have some nice widgets as well, but Yahoo! seems to have some of the most diverse.
How diverse, you say? Well, anything from ridiculously weird utilities (such as the mouse odometer Jeff mentioned) to games, RSS feeds and some other stuff that’s just downright useful.
